More than Movement

Pilates isn't just exercise, it's a way of reconnecting with your body and calming your nervous system. Especially through midlife transitions such as menopause and beyond, mindful movement can support you to be fully present in the moments of life that matter; outdoor pursuits, holidays, on the floor with grandchildren or being able to complete daily tasks with confidence.

You'll be guided with care, curiosity and a focus on what you need - both physically and emotionally.

Pilates is a safe method of exercise for all ages. It is designed to support your everyday patterns of movement, so that your body can feel better in everyday life. It has been shown to positively impact muscle strength, joint mobility, balance, posture and body awareness, whilst also reducing musculoskeletal pain. The use of resistance in Pilates, through the body's own weight as well as equipment such as resistance bands and weights, also helps to protect against the loss of bone density as we age (Fernandez-Rodriguez, 2021).

Pilates uses lateral breathing which not only strengthens the lungs and improves circulation but also acts on the autonomic nervous system and limbic system by stimulating the vagus nerve to signal to the brain it is safe for us to 'rest and digest'. The ability to move whilst also stimulating our body's ability to relax has proven to reduce blood pressure and stress levels (Ward, 2022).

Meet Amy...

Hi, I'm Amy. I am an APPI certified Matwork Pilates Instructor. I have been practicing Pilates and yoga for several years and have found this type of focused movement to be an important path to both physical and mental health. I get that life transitions - especially midlife - are about more than fitness. They are about finding grounded strength, community and authentic belonging.

As a mother of three and with over 10 years of experience supporting the wellbeing of children, young people and families as a teacher and a mental health practitioner, I understand the common ingredients people need in order to thrive. I believe that movement should be accessible and life-enriching, offering a way to connect with yourself and your community - bringing you moments of pure joy which are vital for your physical and mental wellbeing.
