Helping you to move well...

Focus your mind, increase mobility and strengthen your body with Yellow Bird Pilates

The Benefits of Pilates

Pilates is a very safe method of exercise for all ages although can be more cognitively challenging for children under 5 years. It has been shown to positively impact muscle strength, joint mobility, balance, posture and body awareness, whilst also reducing musculoskeletal pain. The use of resistance in Pilates, through the bodies own weight as well as equipment such as resistance bands and weights, also helps to protect against the loss of bone density as we age (Fernandez-Rodriguez, 2021).

Pilates uses lateral breathing which not only strengthens the lungs and improves circulation but also acts on the autonomic nervous system and limbic system by stimulating the vagus nerve to signal to the brain it is safe for us to 'rest and digest'. The ability to move whilst also stimulating our bodies ability to relax has proven to reduce blood pressure and stress levels (Ward, 2022).

Positive childhood experiences have been shown to support emotional wellbeing, and taking part in positive movement experiences such as Pilates has been shown to help children with concentration, stress management and confidence in their physicality (Ickes, 2006).
